ARA-------------------------For the second time within just one week, severe storms and torrential rains have struck the district, throwing normal public life into complete disarray. The sudden shift in weather patterns on Monday evening not only brought down temperatures—offering people relief from the oppressive humidity—but also unleashed a scene of devastation upon the agricultural sector and social gatherings.

Farmers in the district were already reeling from the devastation of their Kharif and Rabi crops. They had barely begun to recover from that financial blow when this unseasonal storm and rain dealt them a crushing, final blow. According to local farmers, crops of Moong (green gram), maize, and mangoes had already suffered losses of 20 to 25 percent due to the storm that hit last Wednesday. Monday's storm has now dashed whatever lingering hopes remained. Areas such as Piro, Arrah, Jagdishpur, Shahpur, and Barhara have witnessed extensive damage to mango, Jamun (black plum), and maize crops. Farmers cultivating vegetables are also facing a severe crisis, as their fields have become completely waterlogged.

Beyond agriculture, these storms have spelled trouble for families currently hosting weddings or other auspicious ceremonies in their homes. Due to the strong winds, the tents and grand marquees erected for wedding festivities were completely uprooted. The rain resulted in widespread mud and waterlogging across the venues, leaving no dry space for seating. Organizers have not only incurred significant financial losses but have also been compelled to scramble for alternative, safe venues—such as schools and community halls—to host ceremonies like the *Baraat* (wedding procession) and *Tilak* rituals. Furthermore, the arrangements for food and guest hospitality were thrown into a state of helplessness and disarray. The intensity of the storm can be gauged from the fact that in several parts of the district, the roofs of hut-like dwellings were blown away, and significant damage was also inflicted upon tin sheds and traditional tiled houses. However, a positive aspect of this rainfall has been the drop in temperature, which has certainly provided some measure of relief to the general public grappling with severe heat and humidity. In view of the current situation, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert. According to the department, there remains a possibility of storms, rainfall, and lightning strikes in the region over the next two days. The administration has appealed to the public to remain vigilant. In the event of lightning, people are advised to avoid open spaces.
