DELHI----------------------Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) concluded its six-day 105th Foundation Day and Talimi Mela with a grand valedictory ceremony, attended by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena as the chief guest. The ceremony, held at the Ansari Auditorium, was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif, and Registrar Prof. Mohammad Mehtab Alam Rizvi was also present.
The program began with a guard of honor by Jamia's NCC unit, followed by the melodious "Jamia Tarana" by the school choir team. In his address, Mr. Saxena said that Jamia embodies the vision of Gandhiji and Rabindranath Tagore, where education provides equal opportunities for all communities. He said, "Today, Jamia has become the fourth best university in the country, and it is a symbol of our culture and tradition."
He urged students to not only educate themselves but also to spread the light of knowledge to others, considering it their moral responsibility. He said, "Your education is meaningful only when it serves society." The Lieutenant Governor also praised the efforts made under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop a world-class educational infrastructure in the country.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif said that Jamia's journey, which began as a "Madrasa of Teachers," has today evolved into a prestigious central university with over 24,000 students and 800 faculty members. He announced future plans to establish a medical college and hospital, construct additional hostels, and enhance campus security and accessibility. He informed that over 20,000 books were distributed at this year's Talimi Mela to inculcate the habit of reading among students.
Registrar Prof. Mehtab Alam Rizvi, expressing his delight at the success of the six-day fair, said that the event was a microcosm of society, showcasing a beautiful confluence of academic, cultural, and social diversity. He commended the collective efforts of the organizing committees, faculty, students, and staff.
On this occasion, Mr. Saxena also released the "Jamia Journal of Peace Studies," published by the Centre for West Asian Studies and the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution.
The six-day festival was attended by academics, policymakers, and intellectuals from India and abroad. The flag-hoisting ceremony and the illuminated campus of Jamia University at the closing ceremony marked this historic week, conveying a wonderful message of knowledge, culture, and unity.
