PATNA-------------------------The Sheikhpura Civil Court has issued summons to Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, and VIP Party chief Mukesh Sahni in connection with a case related to alleged derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother. Chief Judicial Magistrate Vibha Rani issued the order on Monday.

BJP leader Ramanuj Singh, alias Hira Singh, filed a complaint in the Sheikhpura Civil Court on September 4. The complaint alleges that objectionable slogans against PM Modi's mother were raised at a public meeting during the 'Voter Rights Yatra' held in Darbhanga. Hira Singh, hurt by this incident, filed the case in court.

According to Advocate Gopal Varnwal, the summons has been issued under the new provisions of Section 223 of the Indian Civil Security Code. According to the new law, accused in criminal cases are first given an opportunity to present their side before cognizance is taken of the case. Previously, under the Code of Criminal Procedure, summons were issued only after a crime was taken cognizance of, but now the process has been changed.

The court will mandate the presence of Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, Mukesh Sahni, and other parties at the next hearing. In their presence, complainant Hira Singh will present testimony under oath in support of his allegations. Furthermore, the complainant will also provide other witnesses with an opportunity to testify.

Experts say that the equal hearing of parties in accordance with court procedures and the decision based on evidence in this case demonstrates the strength of the judicial system.
