PATNA---------------------------Opposition parties across the country are united over the voter list revision being done before the assembly elections in Bihar. There is a ruckus in Bihar over this. There is a lot of ruckus in Patna during the budget session of the legislature and in Delhi during the Parliament session. Meanwhile, voices of protest have started rising from Nitish Kumar's party JDU. JDU MP from Banka, Girdhari Yadav, on Wednesday alleged that the commission has forcibly imposed voter intensive revision on us without any practical knowledge. Sharing his experience, he also questioned the time limit for voter list revision and said that at least 6 months should be given for this process.
The JDU MP, who arrived in New Delhi to participate in the monsoon session of the Lok Sabha, said that the Election Commission does not have practical knowledge of the history and geography of Bihar. The one-month time limit for submitting documents for voter list revision is impractical. Girdhari said that it took him 10 days to collect his own documents.
The MP told about the difficulties faced by the migrant voters living outside Bihar in the voter list revision. Girdhari Yadav said, "My son lives in America. How will he sign in just one month? This (SIR) has been forcibly imposed on us. At least 6 months should have been given for this." However, the JDU MP termed it as his personal opinion. He said that he does not care what the party is saying on this. But this is the truth. He also said that if he cannot speak the truth then why did he become an MP.
Let us tell you that the Election Commission started Voter List Revision (SIR) in Bihar last month after 22 years. Under this, BLOs are going door to door to verify voters. All the voters after the 2004 voter list have to give documents to the commission to prove their identity. After this, a new voter list will be released.
The leaders of the opposition parties are openly opposing this process of the Election Commission. They raised many questions about its time limit and documents. There was uproar from the road to the House. The leaders of the ruling coalition NDA are calling the voter list revision correct. However, the political temperature has heated up further after Nitish's party MP raised questions on it.
