PATNA-------------------------The widening of the 22-kilometer road from Danapur to Bihta is in its final stages. The 10-meter-wide road is expected to open to the public by January 2028, improving traffic and connectivity.
Preparations to widen the 22-kilometer road from Danapur to Bihta via Danapur Cantt have reached their final stages. The Patna West Road Division has initiated all procedures related to this project. According to officials, if the work is completed on schedule, the road will be open to the public by January 2028.
The total cost of this project is estimated to be approximately ₹87.67 crore. This road will not only help manage traffic congestion but will also strengthen the Patna Ring Road and the extension of the JP Ganga Path. Given the increasing traffic demand and future vehicle traffic in the city, widening this road has become essential.
The construction of the international airport in Bihta is underway, and the Danapur-Bihta elevated road is also taking shape. Consequently, the traffic flow from Danapur to the city is expected to increase manifold. Currently, the road is only seven meters wide, leading to problems such as traffic jams, overloaded vehicles, and road accidents.
Initially, the road was planned to be a four-lane, or 14 meters wide. However, there are a large number of trees on both sides of the route. The four-lane construction would have required felling these trees, which would have been a concern for the environment and local residents. Consequently, the plan was revised and the decision was made to widen the road to 10 meters. This additional three meters to the existing seven-meter road will make it more accessible and safe.
According to officials of the Patna West Road Division, sufficient government land is available along the road, eliminating the need for land acquisition. This is also a relief for local residents, as it will not impact the project's cost or timeframe.
The DPR (Design and Project Report) for the road widening has been prepared. The tender process for selecting a construction agency has now begun. A pre-bid meeting will be held on December 26, 2025. The deadline for submitting tenders is January 2, 2026. Technical bids will be opened on the same day, and the final selection will be made after the financial bids on January 12, 2026.
The selected company will be required to complete the road construction within a two-year deadline. If this deadline is met, the road widening from Danapur to Bihta will be completed and open to the public by January 2028.
The new road will provide fast and safe connectivity to Patna city with key areas such as Ara, Buxar, Bihta, Maner, and Danapur. The road widening will reduce traffic congestion and provide safer and more comfortable travel for motorists.
The road's connection to the Ring Road and the Jaypee Ganga Path will transform the area into a development corridor for the capital. This route will also be more convenient for commercial and logistics traffic. Furthermore, the road will contribute to the economic development of the surrounding areas, as improved connectivity will accelerate both trade and transportation.
Local residents are also pleased with the road widening. It will ease their daily commute and reduce the time and fuel wasted due to traffic congestion. It will also help the traffic police and administration ensure road safety.
The Danapur to Bihta road widening project will be crucial for Patna's transportation network. It will not only handle the city's growing traffic demand but also strengthen important connectivity routes like the Ring Road and Jaypee Ganga Path. Government officials are striving to complete the construction work on time and open the road to the public by January 2028.
The successful implementation of this project will make travel in Patna city and its surrounding areas more accessible, safe, and faster. Considering the increasing urban and commercial demands, this road widening project will emerge as an important step in the development of the capital Patna.
