DELHI-----------------------Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the theft of a gold Kalash from a Jain temple in Delhi. Police have arrested a scrap dealer named Danish and a woman. However, the main thief remains at large.
Northeast Delhi DCP Ashish Mishra stated that the incident occurred on October 11th when police received information about the theft of the Kalash from the top of the Jain temple at Durgapuri Chowk. Based on the information, a case was registered under relevant sections at the Jyoti Nagar police station, and the investigation was assigned to a team led by Inspector Ved Prakash (SHO/Jyoti Nagar).
During the investigation, the police team examined nearby CCTV footage, gathered local information, and developed clues through technical surveillance. The team received information that the stolen Kalash had been sold in a scrap market. Following this, police detained a 42-year-old female scrap dealer from the Sundar Nagari area. During interrogation, he confessed to possessing the stolen items. During a search, parts of the urn were recovered from his possession.
Following the woman's information, police conducted a second raid and arrested Danish (24), son of Aslam, a resident of Naya Mustafabad. The remaining parts of the urn were recovered from Danish's possession. Preliminary investigation revealed that both accused deal in stolen goods and had planned to break the urn stolen from the temple and sell it for metal.
In the case of the theft of a gold urn from the 15th August Park near the Red Fort, the Delhi Crime Branch recovered the stolen item from an arrested man named Bhushan Verma. Delhi's Joint Police Commissioner Surendra Kumar said that molten gold was also seized from Verma's two associates, Ankit and Gaurav.
Speaking to ANI on Monday, Joint Police Commissioner Kumar said, "On September 3, a theft occurred at the 15th August Park. Members of the Jain community were performing puja and received information that a Kalash had been stolen. The Delhi Police Crime Branch took action and arrested a man named Bhushan Verma. The stolen Kalash was also recovered. Furthermore, molten gold was recovered from his two accomplices, Ankit and Gaurav. A confession was made to the theft during the Jain community puja at Rishabh Vihar on August 7, and the investigation is ongoing."
