BUXAR-------------------------Hariji's compound in the Dumraon town area has transformed into a "monkey town" these days. A pack of over fifty monkeys creates havoc daily from morning to evening in the streets surrounding the CPS school and behind the police station. Everyone, from children to the elderly, is troubled by their terror.
Morning milkmen, those taking a walk, and those going to school are hesitant to leave their homes for fear of these monkeys. Schoolchildren are in the worst condition. To reach the bus stop, they have to wait for the entire group of monkeys to pass. Children have been injured several times while chasing or trying to escape the monkeys. According to locals, a few days ago, a monkey bit a girl's leg, leaving her badly injured.
Local residents say that this group of monkeys has become more aggressive and bold than ever before. Incidents of snatching clothes drying on rooftops, fruits and vegetables from open windows, and even bags from people's hands have become common. Local resident Ranjit Prasad said that walking the streets in the morning and evening is like a war because of the monkeys.
Accusing the Municipal Council of negligence, people said that last year, the administration hired a monkey-catching agency to catch hundreds of monkeys and release them into the forests of Sasaram. After that, there was peace for a few months, but now the same problem has returned. This time, no initiative has been taken by the Municipal Council. People said that before sending their children to school, they look around the streets to make sure there are no monkeys. Shopkeepers also say that the monkeys are disrupting customer traffic. People are demanding that the Municipal Council immediately address this issue and restart monkey-catching, so that the residents of the neighborhood can find relief. Currently, a "monkey court" is held throughout the day in Hariji's compound, and people are feeling like prisoners in their own homes.
