PATNA------------------------A ruckus has erupted in Janata Dal United (JDU) over voter list revision. The party has issued a show cause notice to its own MP Girdhari Yadav. In fact, Girdhari Yadav had questioned the Special Voter List Revision (SIR) going on in Bihar and called it a "Tughlaqi decree" of the Election Commission. He had said that it took him 10 days to collect the documents for voter list revision and the commission is not aware of the ground reality of Bihar.
JDU termed this statement of the MP as anti-party and said that this not only caused embarrassment to the party, but also strengthened the opposition opposing the voter list revision. The party has directed Girdhari Yadav to respond within 15 days.
The work of voter list revision in Bihar is ending today (July 25). According to the Election Commission, so far in this process, the names of 61 lakh such voters have come to the fore, who have died, have shifted to another place, or whose names are registered at more than one place. Apart from this, seven lakh voters have not yet submitted their forms. If the forms are not submitted till today, then their names may be removed from the voter list.
The Election Commission will release the interim voter list on August 1. After this, from August 1 to September 1, political parties will get an opportunity to add the names of the eligible voters left out or remove the wrong names. The Commission informed that 90% of the work of SIR has been completed. In such a situation, the upcoming Bihar elections are likely to be held on the basis of the new voter list.
Girdhari Yadav's statement can create an uncomfortable situation for JDU, as the party is already on the target of the opposition. After this notice, all eyes are on the MP's reply and the party's next step.
