PATNA-------------------------Launching a campaign against illegal sand mining and stockpiling, the EOU and district administration seized sand worth crores and filed FIRs in several police stations across Patna district. Before the investigation could conclude and the culprits were apprehended, the seized sand worth crores was sold by the mafia. Following the revelations in the Hindi daily Tarunmitra, on the orders of District Mining Officer Kartik Kumar, Mining Inspector Uttam Mani filed FIRs against unknown persons at the Ranitalab and Bikram police stations.
A delegation led by Mukund Kumar Singh, president of The Adhikar Foundation, met with City SP Mamta Kalyani on Friday and submitted an application informing her of the situation. The Adhikar Foundation's application alleges the theft of sand worth crores of rupees and negligence in duty with the connivance of the case IOs posted in Ranitalab and Bikram. Taking the application submitted by The Adhikar Foundation seriously, City Superintendent of Police Mamta Kalyani has ordered DSP-2, Bikram, to investigate and take action. A report has been requested within two weeks. Sources indicate that the District Mining Officer confiscates the illegal sand, files a case, and assigns the police of the relevant police station the responsibility of safekeeping the seized sand. The seized sand is then auctioned on the orders of the court and the District Magistrate.
