A BLACK MARKET FOR SMUGGLING UNDER THE GUISE OF A CONSIGNMENT OF ONIONS

ARA----------------------------In view of the upcoming assembly elections and the Dussehra festival, the Prohibition Department, on the orders of District Magistrate Tanay Sultania, is conducting continuous raids and vehicle checks against liquor in the district. Assistant Commissioner of Prohibition, Rajneesh, received a tip-off that a 12-wheeler truck was carrying a large quantity of foreign liquor from Haryana.

A raid team was formed under the leadership of Inspector of Prohibition, Prakash Chandra. The team achieved a significant success early Sunday morning near the Daulatpur Overbridge on the Buxar-Patna four-lane. During the vehicle check, a truck was stopped on suspicion. Upon inspection, a large quantity of foreign liquor was recovered, hidden beneath rotten onions in the truck's trunk. The truck bore a Rajasthan registration number.

The team arrested the truck drivers from the spot, Deva Ram, son of Chutra Ram, resident of Barmer under Thana Rural area of ​​Barmer district of Rajasthan and Jasraj, son of Gumna Ram, resident of the same village. Both the arrested persons are being handed over to the court for further action. A total of 2160 litres of liquor in 3528 pieces was seized from the said vehicle. The market value of the seized liquor was estimated to be around Rs 25 lakh. The seized liquor was being taken from Haryana to Purnia. The raiding team included Inspector Prakash Chandra, Sub Inspector Shivam Kumar Jha, Assistant Sub Inspector Rajkumar Raja, Assistant Sub Inspector Ravi Kumar, along with prohibition constables, SAP and Home Guard jawans.
