ARA---------------------------A seminar on 'Sita and female characters of Ramayana' was organized in the Hindi department of Mahant Mahadevanand Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Ara, on the occasion of Janaki Navami.

On the eve of Janaki Navami, department organized a programme. First of all, garlands were offered to the statue of Mahant Mahadeva Nand ji, the founder of the college. After that, floral tribute was offered to the picture of Maa Janaki made by Aditi Kumari of the Hindi department. The college's principal Prof. Meena Kumari presided over the program and Juhi of the Hindi department of the college sang Gauri Stuti sung by Sita ji and Jagriti sang 'Jai Jagat Nandni' Sita Stuti.

The Principal presented her views on all the female characters of Ramayana and meaningfully discussed the things from Sita's birth to Agni-Pariksha. She also presented her views on the characters of Ahilyabai, Mata Anusuiya, Mata Shabari, Tara, Surpanakha, Trijata etc.

The Head of the Department Dr. Sudha Ranjani, while conducting the program, said that if we want to know and understand Indian society and culture, then we have to look into the life of the female characters of Ramayana. Mother Sita established Indian civilization, culture and dignity by following the duties of a wife, daughter and daughter-in-law even in adverse circumstances.

Assistant Professor of Hindi Department Dr. Anju Kumari underlined the sacrifice of Sumitra and her important role in the character building of her two sons Laxman and Shatrughna. Dr. Rashmi Gupta of the Psychology Department talked about both the merits and demerits of Kaikeyi's character. Among the students, Sunidhi Kumari, Khushi Kumari, Anjali Kumari, Juhi, Jagriti, Aditi, Shruti, Ragini etc. presented their articles on various female characters of Ramayana. Dr. Anju Kumari presented the vote of thanks.
