The program was inaugurated by the college's Principal, Prof. Kanak Lata Kumari. Sinha Memorial Online Lecture Series was successfully organized by the Postgraduate Department of Geography, Maharaja College, Ara, on Wednesday. The featured speaker was Dr. (Kumari) Nisha Rani, Head of the Department, Postgraduate Department of Geography, B.D. College, Patliputra University, Patna. The program was inaugurated by the college's Principal, Prof. Kanak Lata Kumari. She commended the department's continued educational efforts and stated that disaster management awareness is crucial in a disaster-prone state like Bihar.
As the keynote speaker, Dr. Nisha Rani presented detailed information on natural and man-made disasters. She discussed issues such as earthquakes, floods, droughts, cyclones, land erosion, and uncontrolled sand mining. With the help of maps and visual aids presented, it was explained that Bihar is one of the most disaster-prone states in the country due to its geographical location, high population density and agriculture-based economy. The speaker explained in detail the four phases of disaster management—preparedness, mitigation, response and rehabilitation—and emphasized the role of education, community participation and administrative preparedness.
More than 100 participants—teachers, researchers and students—entered this online lecture with enthusiastic participation. The prominent guests present included Dr. Rameshwar Prasad Singh, Dr. Monica Singh and Dr. Sudhir Kumar. All the guests described the topic as extremely relevant and useful.
Prof., coordinator and head of the department of disaster management, explained the four phases of disaster management in detail. Sanjay Kumar introduced the featured speaker and expressed his views on the importance of the topic, stating, "Disasters are not just natural events, but a test of our preparedness." Organizing Secretary Dr. Dweepika Shekhar Singh thanked all participants and speakers. Dr. Arvind Kumar Singh and Qislay Kalash provided technical support for the smooth conduct of the program. Finally, a useful question-and-answer session was held with the participants. Dr. Vishal Dev concluded the webinar with a vote of thanks.
