ARA---------------------------The education system of Bihar is today at such a juncture where the need for improvement is not only in buildings, books and schemes, but also in the quality of people sitting within the system. When the teachers themselves do not perform their duties seriously, then the level of education is bound to fall.
Even today, thousands of such teachers are working in schools in Bihar who are not worthy of becoming teachers. They neither have clear knowledge of the subject, nor understanding of teaching and learning, nor the ability to communicate with children. Such people are only taking salaries and pushing the future of children into darkness. There are some teachers who have been appointed on the basis of recommendation, caste equation or bribe. They are neither serious about teaching nor do they make efforts to increase the understanding of children. This situation is not only weakening a generation, but is also putting the future of Bihar in danger.
Society should also not remain silent now. We have to identify such teachers, send their complaints to the concerned departments and put pressure on the government to terminate the services of ineligible teachers. An education monitoring committee should be formed in every panchayat and every ward in which aware citizens of the village, parents and youth should be included so that they can monitor the schools.
The government will have to accept that there has been a mistake in the appointment process. Just passing the examination does not make someone a qualified teacher. They also need to have knowledge of behavior, dedication, language, subject and children's understanding.
All teachers should be assessed from time to time. There should be a system for retraining or removal of ineligible teachers from service. School inspection should be regular and transparent. Eligible candidates should get opportunities and a corruption-free selection process should be implemented.
A teacher is the creator of the society. If the teacher himself becomes weak, ineligible and careless, then no one can stop the society from collapsing. If Bihar's education system has to be strengthened, then first the ineligible teachers will have to be removed. Now the time has come for all of us to raise questions, raise our voices and give a strong, capable and honest education system to the coming generations.
