DELHI (RNI) There is a big relief news for those traveling across the country. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a big change in the toll rules that now drivers will be able to avail toll free travel for the whole year by paying just ₹3000. This new system is especially a relief for those who travel on the same route daily or repeatedly.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed that now local residents and regular travelers will be given the option of paying a lump sum of ₹3000 annually to provide relief from toll tax. Under this scheme, people traveling on the specified route will be able to travel unlimited times throughout the year without paying toll tax.
This rule is specially made for those people: Those who travel daily like going to office, Traders who use highways daily, Local residents whose house is near toll plaza, School-college students who travel daily.
Nitin Gadkari said that this facility will be linked to FASTag. Users will have to get a 'Fixed Route Pass' by paying ₹ 3000 from their FASTag account. This pass will be valid only on a designated toll plaza and its connecting routes. This facility will soon be implemented on national highways and will be expanded across the country in a phased manner. Gadkari said that the objective of this initiative is twofold:
1. To provide relief to local residents who feel financially burdened by paying toll fee repeatedly.
2. To promote the use of digital payments and FASTag, so that there are no long queues at toll plazas and traffic is seamless.
Till now, a toll had to be paid every time one passed through any toll plaza. Even if a person passes through the same route 10 times a day, he had to pay toll every time. But after the new rule, unlimited travel will be possible after a fixed payment. Gadkari informed that this rule will be implemented soon through a notification. Initially, it will be started as a pilot project at some selected toll plazas. After successful testing, it will be implemented on all national highways across the country.
