PATNA-------------------------Two significant events centered on Bhojpuri painting and Bihar's traditional folk arts were organized in the capital, Patna, on Sunday. The occasion marked the 45th Foundation Day of NABARD. A special discussion was held regarding three traditional art forms of Bihar that have received the GI (Geographical Indication) tag with NABARD's support: the Pidiya art of the Bhojpuri region, Bawan Buti of Nalanda, and Patharkatti stone craft of Gaya.

The Pidiya art of the Bhojpuri region was the primary focus of discussion during the event. Sanjeev Sinha, President of Sarjana Nyas and a senior painter, shed detailed light on the entire journey of Pidiya art—from its history to the acquisition of the GI tag. He highlighted NABARD's pivotal role in this process, noting that this historic achievement was made possible through the support, guidance, and proactive initiatives of officials such as the then District Development Manager (DDM) Ranjeet Sinha. He extended his congratulations and best wishes to the artists, NABARD, the people of Bihar, and the Bhojpuri-speaking community.

Speaking at the event, former NABARD DDM Ranjeet Sinha remarked that a GI tag does more than just identify an art form; it provides legal protection and economic opportunities. He urged artists and organizations associated with Bhojpuri painting to work in an organized manner with Sarjana Nyas so they could fully reap the benefits of the protection and other advantages offered by the GI tag.

In the evening session, the Folkartopedia Foundation organized a discussion on the theme "Challenges Facing Tikuli and Bhojpuri Painting." During the meeting of this organization—which works on Bihar's folk arts and creative economy—a serious deliberation took place regarding the current challenges confronting Tikuli painting and Bhojpuri painting.

On this occasion, Padma Shri Ashok Kumar Biswas expressed concern over the current state of Tikuli painting, noting that despite widespread publicity, there is a lack of adequate government support for training artists in rural areas. The lack of training is also affecting the potential for employment generation through this art form.

Meanwhile, senior painter Sanjeev Sinha stated that there is a need for more extensive research and serious work regarding Bhojpuri painting. He remarked that the greatest challenge lies in integrating contemporary themes while preserving the art's original form and cultural identity, ensuring it remains relevant for future generations. The event was moderated by renowned art writer and playwright Anish Ankur.
