The drinking water supply system in Ward 13 of Chausa Nagar Panchayat has completely collapsed, and the situation is worsening day by day. The area's decades-old water supply tank had been lying in a dilapidated condition for a long time, but now, after it burst, the water supply through pipelines has completely stopped in the entire ward. Hundreds of families are struggling even for drinking water. According to the villagers, the authorities at the block and Nagar Panchayat levels were informed several times about the malfunctioning tank, but no concrete steps have been taken so far.
Local representatives Chhotelal Chaudhary, Surendra Been, Sudama Been, Rita Devi, and Anita Devi have also raised this issue several times, but have received nothing but assurances. People say that complaints have been made for months, but not a single brick has been laid in the name of starting repair work. The daily routine of the villagers has been disrupted due to the water crisis. The situation is even more dire in houses that do not have private borewells. Due to the limited number of handpumps, people have to stand in long queues.
Laborers say that most of their morning is spent collecting water, which causes them to be late for work and directly affects their income. Women and children also have to make several trips daily. Many families are somehow managing by asking for water from their neighbors. Local people say that this problem becomes even more severe during the summer months. They clearly stated that the continued neglect of basic amenities like water will no longer be tolerated, and if necessary, they will be forced to launch a collective protest.
