RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

ARA-------------------------I spoke over the phone with Shri Yogendra Yadav—uncle of the late Rajesh Yadav, a resident of Rupbandh village—to express my deepest condolences. The entire family is not alone in this hour of grief. Upon returning to Bihar, I will personally visit Rupbandh on July 16 to meet the bereaved family.

I have urged the Bhojpur Superintendent of Police to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure an impartial probe into this heinous murder and the swift arrest of the perpetrators. I have also demanded that the guilty be given severe and impartial punishment through a speedy trial.

Mere arrest is not enough. The administration must also clarify why the murder took place, who is behind it, and who is responsible for the incident. This will strengthen public faith in the law and the justice system.

Today, the fear of the law seems to have vanished from the minds of criminals in Bihar. The primary and greatest responsibility of any government is to ensure the safety of the general public.

Instead of wasting time on changing names or engaging in the politics of vendetta, the government should focus entirely on the development of villages, the poor, farmers, students, the youth, and sportspersons.

With the very first spell of rain, a serious problem of waterlogging has emerged across Bihar, including Patna. The government must formulate long-term plans now so that the public does not have to face this crisis in the future.

Furthermore, concrete action plans should be devised for rainwater harvesting, the construction of water bodies, necessary dams on rivers, the lining of canals, adequate electricity for farmers, the strengthening of irrigation systems, the procurement of farmers' produce at 100% support price, and the promotion of tourism and employment.

Removing security guards, evicting people from official residences, or changing names does not constitute development. True development is that which provides the public with security, dignity, employment, better education, healthcare, and prosperity.

Justice, security, and development—these should be the government's top priorities.
