Sensation spread in the Koirpurwa locality of the Nagar police station area on Tuesday evening when a team in plain clothes took away two people. People initially thought it was a kidnapping, then rumors of an STF operation surfaced. However, late at night, Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya clarified that the action was carried out by the Forest Department.

On Wednesday, officials from the Ara-Buxar Forest Range confirmed that three people from Buxar were detained for smuggling a two-headed snake (Red Sand Boa). This species is banned, and its trade is completely illegal. According to sources, the action was taken based on information from a special team from Delhi, assisted by local forest officials. Team members arrived in Buxar posing as customers and arrested the accused after striking a deal.

Local sources say the three individuals detained include the notorious Indrajit Singh Koiri and Jairam Singh, a resident of his neighborhood. Indrajit had recently been released from prison for murder, which has further fueled the uproar.

Forest officials stated that the smuggling of red sand boas is a multi-million dollar business. According to Hariom, a renowned snake rescuer in the district, the price of this snake depends on its size and weight. A four-foot red sand boa can sell for 2 to 3 crore rupees. It is reportedly used in tantric activities and the manufacture of sex-enhancing drugs. This species is found in areas along the Ganges River, making it a target for smugglers. The Forest Department is now interrogating the accused to determine the extent of this smuggling network and who all are involved. The case is serious, and the investigation team is proceeding with the investigation, believing it to be linked to an interstate gang.
