Just as Raja Ram Mohan Roy raised his voice against the social evils plaguing Hindu society in India, and just as Swami Vivekananda presented the true spirit of religion to the world, similarly, today, Javed Ahmed Ghamidi is striving single-handedly to convey a correct, rational, and humane understanding of Islam to the people.

ARA---------------------------Just as Raja Ram Mohan Roy raised his voice against the social evils plaguing Hindu society in India, and just as Swami Vivekananda presented the true spirit of religion to the world, similarly, today, Javed Ahmed Ghamidi is striving single-handedly to convey a correct, rational, and humane understanding of Islam to the people.
He dissociates Islam from extremism and violence, focusing instead on its true teachings: peace, justice, and humanity. He interprets the Quran and Sunnah with an open mind and without fear.
Yet, it is tragic that his own community is unwilling to accept him. Some hurl abuse at him, others label him an infidel (*kafir*), and some issue *fatwas* against him. In Pakistan, his life was endangered, forcing him to leave the country. The truth is that a society which reviles its reformers does not actually desire reform; it merely finds comfort in the shackles of the past and views anyone attempting to break them as an enemy.
Ghamidi stands alone, but history bears witness that the voice of truth continues to resonate, even when solitary.
The question is not whether Ghamidi is right or wrong.
The question is: are we willing to listen?
