ARA (RNI) Ramesh Yadav, a physical teacher (instructor) in a school in Bhojpur, is training more than 150 children in boxing for free. These children dream of becoming the world's biggest boxers like Mary Kom and Vijender Singh. Without any facilities, he has got many state-level medals. His dream is that the soil of Bhojpur should rain gold in the Olympics. Ramesh's story is strong in itself.
Ramesh Yadav was reinstated as a physical teacher in the year 2022 in Upkramit Madhya Vidyalaya Alekhitola, Barhara in Bhojpur. Ramesh, who comes from a poor family himself, says that when I wanted to become a boxer myself, the coach had demanded money and gloves but I could not give it and my dream ended there. He says that at that very moment I decided that I would never ask for money from any child.
Today, the same unfulfilled dream of Ramesh Yadav is being fulfilled in the form of medals hanging around the necks of his 19 disciples. These include many daughters, who now confidently enter the ring and are winning medals in state level competitions. He says that in May-June this year, 15 of his children participated in the state level boxing tournament held in Katihar, Bihar, out of which 14 of his children won medals.
Ramesh says that three children are going to play in the sub-junior national this month, which is a proud moment for us. He said that seeing the talent of the children, very soon Eklavya Center is being opened in Ara by the Director General of Sports. Where children will be able to stay and get boxing training for free.
Gives wings to children's dreams: There were no basic things like kits, shoes, gloves and helmets for the children, but Ramesh Yadav did not give up. He took out some part from his salary of Rs 8000 and fulfilled their needs. Due to this effort of his, the children gained confidence and now these young players are working hard day and night to bring glory to Bihar.
Sir convinced Papa: Boxing player Sonam told that when Sir talked about playing boxing for the first time at home, Papa said that my daughter will not play boxing, she will get hurt in her mouth and then there will be problem in getting married. Anyway, we do not have money to play.
"Papa had refused for boxing but Sir said that he will pay from his own pocket. After that we started boxing. In the beginning, I was very scared, I used to get hurt too but now Sir has given me kit and all the safety equipment. Now we practice with full enthusiasm." - Sonam Kumari, Boxing Player
'I dreamt because of Sir': Khushboo, who is taking training in boxing, also says that if Sir was not there, I would never have learned boxing. She says that because of Sir, today I have played till the national level. I have won at the national level. Sir also helps a lot with money.
"We come from a very poor family. We are learning boxing because of Sir. Sir teaches us day and night. He takes money out of his meagre salary and buys boxing equipment for us." - Khushboo Kumari, boxing player
Ramesh's hard work paid off: The Bihar government has also paid attention to the hard work of Ramesh Yadav, who is engaged in making the village a 'boxing hub'. Sports Director Ravindra Shankar himself praised the efforts of this grassroots coach and announced to give him all possible help. With the support of the state government, Ramesh Yadav's players have started getting resources and Bihar's boxing has started shining in the ring.
Preparation for Olympics in the coming days: Ramesh Yadav says that my dream is that gold should rain from the soil of Bhojpur in the Olympics. I will not stop until one of my players wins a medal for the country at the international level. His dream is not just his, but has now become the dream of the entire Bhojpur and Bihar.
How does work run in 8000?: Regarding this, Ramesh says that running one's household in a salary of 8000 is a big deal, but still to fulfill my unfulfilled dreams, I decided to train children in boxing. When the children win medals, my wish will also be fulfilled. However, I would definitely like to tell the government that the salary of physical teachers should be increased, so that we can prepare children for sports with enthusiasm.
"Earlier it was very challenging to come from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh and run one's household in a salary of 8000 and then train children in boxing. Initially, parents were not ready to teach boxing to children, because they were afraid of getting hurt, but somehow everyone was prepared. Today our children have won 34 medals at the state level. Now we have started getting help from the government as well." - Ramesh Yadav, Physical Teacher cum Boxing Coach
