PATNA-------------------------A delegation again met the government on behalf of the Special Survey Contract Workers Union, but their demands have not been met yet. The government recently dismissed thousands of contract workers from service in one go, in protest against which they are on a statewide strike from August 16.
The contract workers on strike say that the police lathicharged them during the peaceful dharna-demonstration, due to which the movement has become more violent.
The main demands of the contract workers included the service of all the workers dismissed in the dharna-satyagraha should be restored immediately. The service period should be regularized up to 60 years. Preference should be given on the basis of experience in regular appointment. Facilities like dearness allowance, change of designation and EPFO contribution should be implemented.
Former Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav supported the contract workers and said that their demands are legitimate and the government should take a positive decision on them without any delay.
