PATNA------------------------------A fire broke out at Patna Airport in Bihar on Thursday. This accident happened due to spark in the old terminal building of Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport. The fire safety squad present to deal with the emergency situation in the airport premises has controlled the fire.
The airport administration has denied any major damage. It is being told that welding work was going on here before demolishing the old terminal building, during which the fire broke out. This accident happened at Patna Airport on Thursday afternoon. It is being told that due to spark during welding work, the goods kept nearby caught fire. The fire started spreading very soon. This was immediately reported to the fire brigade present in the premises.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI), while reacting to the fire incident at Patna Airport, said that it has not affected the air service. According to the official statement of AAI, a minor fire broke out due to a spark from gas cutting during steel cutting work in the old SHA area near the airline ticket counter. The incident was accidental.
A contractor's employee immediately controlled the fire using fire extinguishers present on the spot. The authority said that CISF personnel and ATC tower immediately informed the fire control room. The airport fire rescue vehicle (AFRV) responded immediately and brought the situation under control. Aircraft operations at Patna airport are smooth.
However, during the fire, a huge cloud of smoke was seen rising in the airport premises. It is being told that the exercise to demolish the old terminal building is going on, so the necessary items were already removed here. A new terminal building has recently been built at Patna airport. On June 3, the old terminal was closed and the movement of aircraft was started from the new building. After this, the process of demolishing the old terminal building was started. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the new terminal building on 29 May 2025.
