ARA-------------------------A 65-year-old cobbler died on the spot in a horrific road accident in Azimabad market, under the Azimabad police station area of Bhojpur district, on Thursday morning. An out-of-control truck ran him over. Following the incident, a chaotic situation prevailed in the area, and strong resentment was witnessed among the local villagers, leading to a road blockade for about five and a half hours.
According to information, the deceased has been identified as Chandeshwar Ram, 65, son of late Shiv Lal Ram, a resident of Bhimpura village under the Azimabad police station area. He was a cobbler by profession and ran a shop in Azimabad market. He was going to his shop in Azimabad market as usual when the accident occurred. The collision was so severe that he died on the spot. After the accident, the truck driver abandoned the truck near Brahmpur village and fled. Upon receiving information about the incident, panic spread in the surrounding areas. Deep anger spread among the deceased's family members and local villagers.
The enraged villagers blocked the road at Azimabad market by placing the deceased's body on the road, demanding compensation. This road blockade started in the morning and continued for about five and a half hours. Due to the road blockade, long queues of vehicles formed on the roads in and around Azimabad market. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road, and traffic came to a complete standstill, causing immense inconvenience to the commuters.
Upon receiving information about the road blockade, the Azimabad Station House Officer immediately reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitated people. However, the villagers remained adamant on their demands and refused to lift the blockade. Considering the seriousness of the situation, Sandesh Block Development Officer Archana Kumari and Agiaon Circle Inspector Shyam Kumar also reached the spot. The officials gave the villagers appropriate assurances regarding necessary action and compensation, after which the road blockade was lifted after about five and a half hours.
The police took the body into custody and sent it to the Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. The police also seized the accident-involved truck, which was found abandoned near Brahmpur village, and brought it to the police station. The police have started investigating the matter. Meanwhile, the deceased Chandeshwar Ram's younger son, Akhilesh Kumar, gave a detailed account of the incident, stating that his father was going to the Azimabad market on his bicycle to open his shop. Upon reaching the Azimabad market, he dismounted from his bicycle and was crossing the road. At that moment, an auto-rickshaw was coming from one side and a speeding truck from the other. The out-of-control truck then ran over his father, killing him on the spot.
Chandeshwar Ram is survived by his wife Phoolkumari Devi, two sons Kamlesh Kumar and Akhilesh Kumar, and one daughter Shobha Devi. Following this tragic incident, a pall of gloom has descended upon the deceased's home. His wife Phoolkumari Devi and all the family members are inconsolable. Everyone is stunned by this sudden and overwhelming tragedy that has befallen the family.
