As thrilling as the election results were in the Dumraon Assembly constituency, the same excitement is now being felt after the cabinet formation. After first-time MLA Rahul Kumar Singh was not included in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's new team, disappointment is becoming apparent among local NDA workers. From the streets of Dumraon to political platforms, a single question is echoing: "Why didn't such a capable person get a place in the cabinet?"
It's worth noting that Rahul Singh made a strong entry into the corridors of power by defeating the Grand Alliance candidate, Dr. Ajit Kumar Singh, by 2,105 votes in the recent elections, but his entry into the corridors of power failed to reach the cabinet. While party workers were confident that his impressive performance, strong educational background, and administrative experience made him a strong contender for a ministerial position, supporters argued that Dumraon is a politically significant constituency, and representatives from here should be given significant government responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the 91st Amendment to the Constitution is also under discussion, under which the number of ministers in a state cannot exceed 15 percent of the total assembly members. For Bihar, this limit is set at a maximum of 36 ministers. After the swearing-in of the current 26 ministers, an expansion of the cabinet is being anticipated, and supporters are pinning their hopes on this.
Rahul Singh's qualifications are also being considered a major argument in his favor. Qualifying for the UPSC, serving as an officer, then as an advocate in the Supreme Court—such a career is rarely the lot of a new MLA. For this reason, NDA workers believed that Rahul's administrative understanding could make a significant contribution to the state's development model. His meetings with several prominent leaders, such as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, JDU state president Umesh Kushwaha, and former Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha, also fueled political speculation.
But when his name was not included in the swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, a wave of disappointment swept through Dumraon. Supporters believe this was a golden opportunity for the region's development, which was lost. However, amid this controversy, Rahul Singh has maintained his composed image. Calm, composed, and away from the noise of politics, he clearly stated, "I have no desire for any position. The people of Dumraon have given me the opportunity to serve, and this is the greatest honor for me. I will fulfill my duties with complete devotion."
While party workers are keeping an eye on a possible cabinet expansion, Rahul Singh's statement sends a message of political maturity. The people of Dumraon are also waiting to see whether their MLA will be included in the next list or whether this story will end here.
