ARA---------------------------On the orders of District Magistrate Tanay Sultania, the Prohibition Department is continuously conducting extensive operations against illegal liquor and drugs in the district. In a significant operation, the department seized a large consignment of codeine-laced cough syrup worth approximately ₹1.5 crore. Two smugglers were also arrested in this operation. Assistant Commissioner of Prohibition, Rajneesh, received a tip-off that a large quantity of banned cough syrup was being transported in a truck from Dehradun to Patna, Bihar. Given the seriousness of the information, a special raiding team was immediately formed under the leadership of the Assistant Commissioner of Prohibition.

The raiding team began intensive vehicle checking in the district. During the vehicle checking campaign, the team found two DCM trucks suspicious and stopped and searched them. During the search, a large quantity of codeine-laced cough syrup worth approximately ₹1.5 crore was recovered from both trucks. The investigation also revealed that both seized trucks bore Uttar Pradesh (UP) registration numbers. The team acted swiftly and arrested the drivers of both vehicles.

The arrested drivers have been identified as Yogesh Kumar, son of Bhuri Singh, a resident of Bhagat Nagariya village under the Surir police station in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, and Mohammad Irshad, son of the late Mohammad Aziz Alam, a resident of Rani Mau village under the Patrega police station in Faizabad district, Uttar Pradesh. Both accused have been handed over to the court for further legal action.

Detailing the recovered cough syrup, the department stated that a total of 95,900 bottles of "Codeine Phosphate and Triprolidine Hydrochloride Viskuff Cough Syrup 100 ml" were seized from the two trucks, totaling 9,590 liters. The market value of this seized illegal cough syrup is estimated to be approximately ₹1.5 crore.

In this successful raid operation, under the able leadership of Assistant Commissioner Prohibition, Mr. Rajneesh, Inspector Prakash Chandra, Inspector Anil Kumar, Sub-Inspector Shivam Kumar Jha, Assistant Sub-Inspector Madan Lal Yadav, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ravi Kumar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajkumar Raja along with Prohibition constables, SAP and Home Guard jawans were involved.
