CHIEF MINISTER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SHAHPUR INCIDENT: MLA RAHUL TIWARI

15-JULY-ENG 16

RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

ARA--------------------------The Excise Department Police team personnel enter anywhere without informing the local police station. Shahpur incident is an example of this, where the Police Captain himself said that he had no information about this operation. Rahul Tiwari, MLA (Shahpur) Bhojpur

After the death of Sushil Yadav in the firing of the Excise Department (Prohibition) Police in Shahpur of Bhojpur district, local MLA Rahul Tiwari met his family and directly blamed the liquor ban policy of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for this incident.

He says that Bihar's liquor ban policy is impractical and the result of a "fad", which was implemented by the Chief Minister to improve his image. He reminded that when this policy was being made in 2015, he and other honorable people had told the Chief Minister that complete prohibition would increase corruption, black marketing and police arbitrariness, but the Chief Minister remained adamant on his stubbornness.

On the death of a youth in Shahpur due to the bullet of a police jawan of the Excise Department, MLA Rahul Tiwari said that according to the local people, the police team of the Excise Department (Prohibition) was roaming in the area of Ward-03 of Shahpur Nagar Panchayat in search of liquor. After searching several houses for two hours, when they did not find anything, they tried to catch a young man who was milking his cow. The dispute escalated over this matter. The MLA said that a jawan of the Excise Department, who was probably drunk or mentally unstable, started firing indiscriminately with his INSAS rifle. The deceased Sushil Yadav, who did not live in that house and was going to his house in Ward-01 after buying vegetables from the nearby market, had come to this street after hearing about the police raid, and became a victim of firing and died. Question on police action: He raised the question that who gave the jawan the right to fire without the order of any magistrate. Rejecting the police jawan's argument of self-defense, he said that the public also has the right to self-defense. He said that the jawan was not injured, which proves that firing was unnecessary. Even after the jawan shot and killed the youth, the villagers kept him alive.

The MLA highlighted that the local police station and the district police captain had no information about this raid. This raid was done directly by the excise department, which shows that it has become a means of earning money.

Tiwari launched a scathing attack on the current government and said that it is a "government of dishonest people". On the allegation of "jungle raj", he said that a democratically elected government cannot be called jungle raj, but today's government is of dishonest people. He argued that on one hand, if a youth struggling with unemployment adopts even a slightly wrong way to earn money, he is killed in an encounter, while on the other hand, government departments are openly doing corruption and extortion.

MLA Rahul Tiwari met the family of deceased Sushil Yadav and said that a murder case has been registered against the guilty jawan and the officer who gave the order, Ajay Kumar, along with the police team of the excise department involved in the raid. He asked the local police station to take action to arrest them soon and send them to jail.

Demanding compensation for the family of deceased Sushil Yadav, he said that when policemen die on duty, their families get compensation, so the same provision should be there when innocent citizens are killed.
