ARA-----------------------Fisheries Development Officer Guddu Kumar Singh stated that the production, storage, and sale of catfish have been completely banned since 2020. He said that this fish contains a high amount of heavy metals, which are extremely dangerous to human health.

In a major operation near Naya Tola under the Jagdishpur police station area of ​​Bhojpur district, the Fisheries Development Officer of Bhojpur seized and destroyed the banned catfish. This action was taken on the orders of the District Fisheries Officer to curb the illegal sale of banned fish in the area.

Fisheries Development Officer Guddu Kumar Singh explained that the production, storage, and sale of catfish have been completely banned since 2020. He said that this fish contains a high amount of heavy metals, which are extremely dangerous to human health. Consuming it can lead to serious illnesses, and even increases the risk of fatal diseases like cancer. This is why the government has banned this fish.

He further explained that if catfish are released into a pond, they eat other fish present there, causing significant damage to the biodiversity of water bodies. According to information, this fish is produced in Thailand.

It is illegally brought into Bihar via West Bengal. During the operation, about 2.5 to 3 quintals of banned catfish were seized and destroyed on the spot. The fish vendor was released after being given a stern warning.
