STATEWIDE LAUNCH OF DIVYANGIAN DISASTER SECURITY PROGRAMME

PATNA---------------------------The Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA) in collaboration with the organization “Saksham” of the Social Welfare Department, today inaugurated the “Divyangjan Disaster Security Program” across the state in a grand manner. This ambitious initiative is being run under the progressive leadership of Chief Minister and Authority Chairman Nitish Kumar.

The state-level inauguration ceremony was held at Sadar Buniyad Center in Danapur, Patna district. Authority Vice President Dr. Uday Kant, members Kaushal Kishore Mishra, Narendra Kumar Singh and Prakash Kumar inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp. A large number of Divyangjan and their families were present at the ceremony.

On this occasion, Vice President Dr. Uday Kant said – “This program is not only disaster management, but a true service to humanity. Our goal is to take its benefits to the last person of the society, who is the most vulnerable today.” Authority member Narendra Kumar Singh said that “Probably Bihar is the first state in the entire country which has implemented the disaster safety program for the disabled on such a wide scale.”

A large number of officers and experts including OSD of the Authority Md. Moiz Uddin, SDRF Commandant Rajesh Kumar, Senior Administrative Officer of “Saksham” Harishankar Ram, Deputy CEO Sunil Kumar, State Program Manager Shahnawaz Ahmed and Sushil Srivastava were present at the ceremony. Nodal Officer Sandeep Kamal and the entire team of the Authority along with the honorary advisor of the Authority Suman Kumari were also present on the occasion.

This program was organized simultaneously in all the 38 districts of the state today. The Buniyaad Centers of all the districts remained connected to the inauguration ceremony through video conferencing. Assistant District Disaster Management Officer also participated in the programs organized in the districts.

Under this campaign, more than 1000 master trainers have been prepared so far and by organizing mock drills in dozens of schools, the disabled have been taught the ways to stay safe during disasters. In the coming days, this program will be run regularly from Buniyaad centers of all 101 subdivisions of the state in the name of “Safe Friday”. The aim of this historic initiative is to make Divyangjan self-reliant and safe during disasters. Trained master trainers along with expert teams of B.S.D.M.A. and S.D.R.F. are teaching Divyangjan their rights, safety measures and emergency response techniques.
