ARA------------------------Monthly meeting of District Road Safety Committee and Hit and Run. It was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Development Commissioner, Bhojpur. Civil Surgeon, Education Officer, Sub-Divisional Officer, Deputy Traffic, Sadar Ara, Executive Engineer, Shahabad Road Division, Rural Works, NHAI Assistant Director, Mining, Motor Vehicle Inspector etc. were present in this meeting.

In the meeting of Road Safety Committee, detailed discussion was held on various agendas and instructions were given by Deputy Development Commissioner. He said that strengthening the engineering system is a major reason for road accidents, lack of proper road engineering arrangements. Such as reflective tape, camera installation, use of signage, getting zebra crossings painted, getting reflective tape installed on trees on the roadside, proper lighting arrangements near black spots, solar blinking lights at necessary places etc. should be made.

Road safety awareness program needs to be run throughout the year in the district. The objective of this program is to increase public awareness about traffic rules and ultimately reduce deaths due to road accidents. Awareness program should be promoted at school/college level.

Under the Hit and Run scheme, the compensation amount fixed by the government is Rs. 2.00 lakh in case of death and Rs. 50,000/- (fifty thousand) in case of serious injury under section 161 of Motor Vehicles Act.

This team should take concrete steps to get rid of the problem of traffic jam/accident at the main squares of Ara city because often there is a problem of jam due to lack of smooth movement of vehicles in the major cities/markets of the district, due to which there is a possibility of accident. Appropriate steps need to be taken to get rid of this.

There should be a provision of pollution testing centers at the symbol petrol pumps of the district. The concerned officials should regularly check the standards of pollution testing centers of the district. Also, appropriate steps should be taken to establish pollution testing centers near every petrol pump. An emergency medical plan should be made for road accidents in the district so that the possibility of death due to lack of medical treatment at the time of an accident in the district is reduced. For this purpose, the number of the nearest hospital should be written at various places in accident affected areas and on the roadside for emergency situations. The department should work on publishing and publicizing news related to road safety. News related to road safety should be published through newspapers and local news channels. From time to time, the general public should be made aware by making appeals related to road safety through local news channels.
