ARA--------------------------There was a huge ruckus and fighting in the Congress office in Ara of Bhojpur district on Thursday when MLA from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh and Bihar state co-incharge of Congress Devendra Yadav arrived to meet party workers. During this, a heated argument between two factions took a violent turn and there was heavy kicking, punching, abuse and fighting from both sides. The video of the incident is now going viral on social media, due to which the internal strife of the Congress has once again come to the fore.
Bhilai MLA of Chhattisgarh Devendra Yadav had reached Ara to participate in the program of Bhojpur District Congress. A huge crowd of workers had gathered to welcome him in the Congress office. As soon as Devendra Yadav entered the office, sloganeering started in his support - "Devendra Yadav Zindabad", "Congress Party Zindabad".
At the same time, a tussle started between the two factions present there, which soon turned into a scuffle. Senior leaders present on the spot tried to mediate, but the fierce supporters of both sides attacked each other fiercely. Injured Congress leader said – 8-10 people beat me up, brick was hit on the head
Senior Congress leader Sunil Kumar Singh, who was seriously injured in the incident, said that he had gone there only to calm the atmosphere. He said, "I had gone to the Congress office to listen and see Devendra Yadav. As soon as the program started, there was an altercation between two groups. I went to calm both of them, but then 8-10 people caught hold of me, started abusing and beating me. Someone hit a brick on my head from behind, due to which I got a deep injury and got six stitches." Sunil Kumar Singh is an old and experienced leader of Bhojpur Congress. He lives in Nawada Mohalla of Nawada police station area and is currently working as an assistant clerk in Hindu Mahila College. His father late Shivkumar Singh has also been a senior Congress leader.
It is being told that one of the groups involved in the fight was of Congress leader Upendra Kumar Singh, who is staking his claim from Ara assembly seat in the upcoming elections. The other group got angry with the sloganeering being done by his supporters. Gradually the debate intensified and it reached the point of fighting.
Sunil Kumar Singh has accused Upendra Kumar Singh and his supporters of attacking him. He said that there was already resentment over the delay in the program and the atmosphere at the spot was already hot.
Speaking to the media immediately after the fight, Chhattisgarh MLA Devendra Yadav said, Who clashed with each other, what happened, who got hurt - this is a matter of investigation. According to our information, our Congress workers were not involved in the disturbance that took place. It was the work of outside elements. This could be an act. The administration should take action on this."
If the workers have been attacked today, I too can be attacked tomorrow. It is the responsibility of the administration and the state government to ensure the safety of the leaders and workers." Questions are also being raised on the silence of the local administration and the security arrangements during this entire incident. Despite the presence of such a big leader in the program, there were not enough security forces there. Congress workers have alleged that the administration did not take this program seriously, due to which the situation went out of control.
This incident has once again made it clear that Bihar Congress is struggling with internal factionalism and leadership battles. The tussle between potential ticket claimants in Ara assembly constituency has now come on the road. This can become a serious challenge for the Congress in the future.
The video of the incident is now going viral on social media, in which it can be clearly seen how party workers attacked each other under the Congress flag. This can cause great damage to the party's image. Local leaders have demanded an investigation and action against the culprits.
