ARA-----------------------After independence, the government has provided electricity to every corner but a village in Bhojpur is still waiting for electricity. Years changed, governments changed, but if something has not changed, it is the dark life of the people of Surodha island village.
Even decades after independence, there is a severe lack of basic facilities in this area. Nearly 50 people living here are still deprived of basic facilities like electricity and water. Surodha island of Ara Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency is Ward No 11, a part of Nagar Panchayat Koilwar. More than a thousand people live here in 120 houses. The villagers face the most problems during the rainy season, when the island is completely surrounded by water, due to which the local residents here are still struggling for basic needs. 'If electricity and water are arranged on Surundha island, we will make this island a paradise. Even after decades of independence, no leader or minister has taken care of us. Although during the election days, their representatives come here and promise to provide basic facilities on the island, but those promises become futile as soon as the elections are over'. Farmer
6 years ago, in Surundha island village, a campaign was started with the efforts of the then DM Sanjeev Kumar to connect the people living there with the mainstream. Under which solar plates were installed for electricity. About 150 houses were given connection for one LED light and fan each through solar plates.
At the same time, drinking water was also arranged in many houses by laying water supply lines from solar energy, but due to lack of maintenance and regular maintenance, everything got spoiled in just 1 year. Meanwhile, the then DM Sanjeev Kumar was transferred, after which now the people here are yearning for water and electricity.
Local women said that there is no school here, so children go to study in Lakhan Tola located near Bihta police station area of Patna district, because there is no direct road to go to Koilwar from Surondha island. The biggest problem occurs during rainy days, when the island is surrounded by water from all sides. In such a situation, children stop going to school. "Since there is no electricity, we finish the kitchen work before sunset." Sumitra Devi, local resident.
