DELHI---------------------------Ahead of Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra Singh's retirement on September 30, the Central Government has announced the new Chief Secretary of Delhi. Rajiv Verma, a 1992-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi. He has been brought from Chandigarh to serve as the new Chief Secretary.
It is worth noting that in the government of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Rajiv Verma held positions such as Transport Commissioner and Divisional Commissioner in Delhi. It is worth noting that Rajiv Verma, Delhi's new Chief Secretary, is a 1992-batch IAS officer. He was appointed Advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator in January 2024. He also served as the Chief Secretary of Puducherry. Before assuming the position of Advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator, he was the Chief Secretary of Puducherry.
He holds a degree in Architecture from the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology and a postgraduate degree in Urban Design from the Delhi School of Planning and Architecture. It's worth noting that the current Chief Secretary, Dharmendra Singh, was appointed Chief Secretary during the Aam Aadmi Party government after the retirement of Naresh Kumar. Dharmendra Singh is a 1989 batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre. Even after the BJP government came to power in February this year, he was retained in this role, while the appointments of several other officers were reshuffled.
The names of several IAS officers from the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and Mizoram Union Territories (AGMUT) were in the running for the post of Chief Secretary of Delhi, including Amit Yadav (1991), Debasree Mukherjee (1992), Vijay Kumar (1992), and Ashwani Kumar (1992). Yadav, Mukherjee, and Vijay Kumar are currently on central deputation, while Ashwani Kumar currently holds the position of Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). He previously served as Principal Secretary in the Revenue and Home departments of the Delhi government.
