ARA---------------------------It has been almost a year now since the defeat of Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and former Union Minister R.K. Singh from Arrah in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Once considered influential in the party and the government, R.K. Singh is today seen completely on the political sidelines. No stage, no statement, no public appearance—his name is rarely heard anywhere in the corridors of politics now.
After the elections, he was almost stopped from being invited to party programs. The biggest example of this was seen on May 30, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Vikramganj. There were thousands of posters, the stage was decorated, there were pictures of big leaders—but R.K. Singh was nowhere to be seen in them. The party did not even feel the need to put his picture in a corner.
His social media accounts, which were once full of praises of the party leadership and praise of government schemes, are now completely silent. Since May 30, he has neither posted anything on Facebook nor has he given any political reaction on Twitter (x). The leader who earlier used to tweet and retweet every action of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister has now disappeared from the digital world.
For the first four months after the defeat, he continued his political activities with his entourage and convoy. Supporters hoped that the party would send him to the Rajya Sabha or give him some organisational responsibility. But time passed and gradually all hopes were shattered. Now he has been given a notice to vacate his government residence and the residence has also been vacated.
According to a reliable source, R.K. Singh met the Union Home Minister to strengthen his position. But during that time, when the Home Minister asked him a direct question—"What have you done for Ara?"—R.K. Singh remained silent. He did not have any satisfactory answer. This question perhaps became the decisive moment of his political future.
Today the situation is such that neither he is seen in party programs, nor does he do public relations in Ara, nor does he express his views on any media or public platform. The leaders who were once considered power centers have now become politically irrelevant.
R.K. Singh's political downfall is not just the story of one person's defeat, it is a glimpse of the bitter truth that tells that only power and position are not sustainable without connecting with the public. When the trust of the public is broken, both position and identity are snatched away.
