PATNA----------------------------The central government has given a big relief to the electricity consumers. The government will now waive the electricity bills of the consumers. Online registration has started for this.

The central government has taken a big step to give relief to the poor and middle class families from old electricity dues by announcing the Electricity Bill Waiver Scheme 2025. Under this scheme, old electricity bills, interest and penalty of such consumers will be waived, who did not pay the bill on time due to financial constraints. People of all the states will get the benefit of this scheme.

The benefit of the scheme will be available only to domestic consumers, while commercial and industrial connection holders will be out of it. For eligibility, the applicant must have a BPL card or Antyodaya ration card. Along with this, those whose monthly electricity consumption is less than 100 units will come under the purview of the scheme.

This scheme will be applicable in both village and city areas, but rural consumers will get special benefits from it. Consumers whose electricity connections have been disconnected due to outstanding bills can also apply. In many states, Aadhaar card, residence certificate and permanent residence conditions will be mandatory.

According to the government, the old bills of eligible consumers will be completely waived or they will be given the facility to pay in installments. The objective of the scheme is not only to provide financial relief to the consumers but also to ensure timely payment to the electricity department.

Aadhaar card, electricity consumer number or connection number, old electricity bill, ration card or poverty line certificate, mobile number, copy of bank passbook (for subsidy in some states) All these documents have to be scanned and uploaded on the website. For offline application, a xerox copy will have to be taken along.

According to the government's scheme, the entire bill of such consumers whose electricity bill is up to 10000 will be waived. If the outstanding amount is more than 10 thousand, then some part will be waived and some will have to be paid in installments. In some states, the government can also waive interest and penalty completely. At the same time, consumers will not have to pay penalty for adding new connections.

To apply, first go to the official website of the electricity company of your state. Find the link “Bijli Bill Mafi Yojana 2025” there and click on it. Enter your mobile number and verify OTP. Now the application form will open, fill in Aadhaar number, consumer number, address etc. After that upload all the required documents. Finally submit the form and receive the acknowledgement.
