PATNA-------------------------Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) President Chirag Paswan has once again made headlines in Bihar politics. Chirag, who recently launched a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar government over law and order, has suddenly changed his stance. During an event in New Delhi on July 28, Chirag claimed that Nitish Kumar will once again take oath as the Chief Minister after the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Chirag said, "NDA is a winning alliance and we will contest the elections under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nitish Kumar will be the Chief Minister of Bihar after the elections." This statement is surprising because just two days ago, Chirag had expressed embarrassment over supporting the Nitish government, accusing it of "kneeling" in front of criminals. Citing incidents like rape in Gaya and murders in Patna, he questioned the government's failure.
Chirag's statement ahead of the assembly elections to be held in Bihar in October-November 2025 indicates a strategic change within the NDA. Political analysts believe that Chirag's soft stance may be an attempt to strengthen his party's position in seat-sharing talks. It is worth noting that the NDA won the 2020 assembly elections, and Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister. However, the bitterness between Chirag and JD(U) increased after Nitish went with the Grand Alliance in 2022 and then returned to the NDA in 2024.
Chirag also clarified on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Describing it as a regular process, he said that digital technology has made it more transparent. Rejecting the allegations of manipulation of the voter list by the opposition, he accused them of targeting the army and PM Modi on issues like Operation Sindoor.
This changed stance of Chirag has sparked a new discussion in Bihar politics. Now everyone's eyes are on whether this statement will give a message of unity within the NDA or is it just a part of election strategy.
