ARA----------------------------Questioning the annual settlement of the vegetable market, located on District Council land within the Piro Municipal Council, Municipal Council Chairperson Kiran Upadhyay described it as a violation of court orders. In a letter to the District Council Executive Officer cum Deputy Development Commissioner, Bhojpur, and the Sub-Divisional Officer, Piro, the Chairperson cited the Patna High Court's order in CWJC 812/2006 and the Commissioner cum Secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department's letter No. 3804, dated 06-08-2007, stating that the municipal administration has the authority to settle all government land or estates within the municipal area. This issue was prominently raised in the Disha meeting, and guidance was sought from the Panchayati Raj Department. Here, without reviewing the above order of the Honourable High Court and the letter of the Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department in this regard, the District Council has arbitrarily done the annual settlement of the vegetable market located in the Piro subdivision headquarters under the Piro Municipal Council area. According to the Chairman, the revenue obtained from the settlement of the vegetable market is going into the District Council's fund, whereas the garbage coming out of the said vegetable market is thrown on the middle of the road, whose collection and disposal is done by the Municipal Council. In the letter sent to the Deputy Development Commissioner, the Municipal Council Chairman has demanded that the right of annual settlement of the vegetable market be given to the Municipal Council as per the rules.
