PATNA---------------------------The biggest strength of Indian democracy is the principle of one person – one vote. But when some people obtain more than one voter card by hiding their identity or by giving wrong information, they directly challenge this principle. This is not only a crime but also an attack on the credibility of the electoral process.

The shocking thing is that despite such cases being exposed in many areas of the state, the Election Commission does not make their names public. This gives them an opportunity to escape social and legal accountability. The public has the right to know who are involved in such conspiracies to weaken democracy.

In this crime, a big question also arises on the role of the BLO (Booth Level Officer) who takes the primary responsibility of preparing the voter list. If a person gets a voter card made from two places, then it is either the negligence of the BLO or collusion.

Now the time has come that the Election Commission should make public the names of those holding duplicate voter cards and initiate strict legal action against them. This will send a message to the public that those who tamper with the election system will not be spared.

Democracy is protected not only by speeches, but by bold initiatives to expose and punish the culprits.
