Bihar has taken a historic step in the country by introducing the e-voting system. Now the state has become the first state in India, where e-voting is being done through mobile app in municipal elections. This revolutionary system has been implemented in the municipal elections to be held today, 28 June 2025.
This initiative of the Bihar State Election Commission has brought a big change in the traditional voting process. Strengthening the vision of "Digital India" and "e-Governance", this technology has been used especially for those citizens who cannot reach the polling station for some reason.
State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad said that this facility has been specially made available for the following categories, which include senior citizens, Divyang voters, pregnant women, persons suffering from incurable diseases and migrant laborers. It has now become possible for these eligible voters to cast their vote from home through mobile app.
A total of 51,157 voters from across the state have registered for e-voting. The highest number of registrations among them has been done in Buxar Municipality. Apart from this, a lot of enthusiasm has also been seen in the municipal bodies of districts like Patna, Gaya, Saran, East Champaran, Siwan, Banka and Rohtas.
Voters login and verify their identity through a secure mobile application developed by the State Election Commission. After that, they can vote for their favorite candidate within the stipulated time period. The entire process is end-to-end encrypted and its data is not shared with any third party. Technologies like OTP verification, face recognition and Aadhaar based authentication have been used for security.
Experts believe that this initiative can become a model for the entire country in the coming times. This will not only bring transparency and speed in the voting process, but can also increase the voting percentage. Especially among those sections who are deprived of the traditional system.
The Election Commission has set up a Control and Monitoring Center for conducting e-voting from where every activity is being monitored in real time. Helplines and technical teams have also been deployed for quick resolution in case of any disturbance or technical problem.
This initiative of Bihar is not just a technical experiment, but a revolutionary step towards making the democratic process accessible and inclusive. If this experiment is successful, e-voting can become a common process in Panchayat, Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in future.
