Eight months after the marriage, the woman died on November 12, 2025. 23 days later, the deceased woman's mother filed a case of dowry harassment and murder. This has fueled speculation that the girl's family wanted to extort money from the boy's family, and when they didn't get it, they filed the FIR. The case is from Gayghat area of Brahmapur police station. The deceased has been identified as Shanti Devi. The deceased's mother, Sanju Devi, had filed an application at the local police station making several serious allegations, based on which an FIR was registered on Saturday.

According to the victim's family, Shanti Kumari was married to Prakash Turha, a resident of Mahadevganj, on March 5, 2025, according to Hindu rituals. Sanju Devi alleges that after the marriage, the discord between the two families increased. She claims that the in-laws were pressuring them for a motorcycle, but the family also says that the family environment had become extremely tense in the last few months and Shanti was living under mental stress. On November 12, 2025, Shanti died under suspicious circumstances, after which the family filed an FIR against the husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law. However, after statements from neighbors and close relatives came to light, the police are also investigating the possibilities of domestic dispute along with dowry harassment.

According to villagers and family sources, the marriage to Prakash Turha took place in March. He worked in a private company in Delhi. The girl was approximately seven months pregnant. Over time, her health deteriorated. She died during treatment in Mahadevganj. The girl's entire family was present during her cremation. Now, about a month later, the girl's family has filed an FIR. All the treatment papers are available. The family has complete faith in the law.

Station House Officer Brajesh Kumar stated that the case is being investigated from all angles and the situation will become clearer after the forensic report is received. The police say that all sides will be heard before reaching any conclusion.
