JDU leader says the municipal council is dumping garbage near a historical monument instead of disposing of it using scientific methods
A fresh controversy has erupted over waste management in the Dumraon Municipal Council area. Local residents and public representatives have openly protested against the dumping of city waste near the historic Navratnagarh Fort in Naya Bhojpur. On Sunday, former JDU Assembly in-charge Ravi Ujjwal Kushwaha himself reached the spot and stopped the sanitation workers from dumping the garbage, raising serious questions about the working style of the municipal council.
Stopping the sanitation team brought from outside, Ravi Ujjwal said that the NGO entrusted with the responsibility of sanitation by the municipal council is paid approximately Rs. 90 lakh every month. This amount clearly includes provisions for the scientific disposal of waste. Despite this, garbage from all over the city is being dumped in any open area, merely as a formality. He termed this as the biggest negligence of the municipal council and an open loot of public funds.
The JDU leader said that Navratnagarh Fort is not just a historical monument, but also the cultural identity of Dumraon. Dumping garbage near such a site is not only dangerous for the environment but is also harming our heritage. He alleged that large-scale corruption is taking place in the name of sanitation and the rules regarding waste disposal are being flouted. Local villagers said that the irregular dumping of garbage is continuously increasing the stench, mosquitoes, and pollution in the surrounding settlements. Many families have started experiencing respiratory problems. Residents say they have complained to the municipal council multiple times, but the problem remains unresolved. During the protest, sanitation workers left the area to avoid any confrontation. Meanwhile, Ravi Ujjwal Kushwaha warned that if the municipal council and the concerned NGO do not arrange for scientific waste disposal soon, the agitation will be intensified. He demanded that the district administration investigate the matter and take action against the responsible officials and the NGO.
Social activists Gopal Prasad Gupta and Birendra Kushwaha were also present at the protest. Local representatives say that the administration's silence is making the situation even worse. Now, all eyes are on the district administration's next course of action to see whether the pile of garbage spreading around Navratnagarh Fort will be cleared or if the matter will be buried in files once again.
