DELHI-------------------------With an aim to further strengthen the strategic and defense partnership between India and Algeria, Indian Army Chief (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi left for a three-day state visit to Algeria today, 25 August 2025. The visit, which will last till August 28, symbolizes the growing military cooperation between the two countries.

This important visit is taking place soon after the recent visits of the President of India and the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) to Algeria, reflecting the high priority of strengthening relations between the top leadership of the two countries.

The main agenda of this visit is to take the defense and security relations between the two countries to a new level. General Dwivedi will discuss several important issues with the top military leadership of Algeria during his visit, including: Increasing cooperation between the armies of the two countries. Sharing mutual views on regional and global security challenges. Exploring new possibilities of defence industrial cooperation.

During his visit, Gen Dwivedi will meet the Minister Delegating National Defence of Algeria and Chief of Staff of the People's National Army, General Said Chanegriha, and the Army Commander, Lt Gen Mustapha Smali. He will also hold a meeting with the Indian Ambassador to Algeria, Dr Swati Kulkarni.

In addition, the COAS will also visit key military training institutions such as the School of Command and Major Staff at Tamentfost and the Churchill Military Academy. He will also pay tribute to the martyrs by paying homage at the Martyrs Memorial of Algeria.

Gen Dwivedi's visit builds on the foundation that was laid at the recent Defence Seminar held in Algiers from 30 July to 01 August 2025. In this seminar, Indian defence industries showcased their advanced capabilities, opening the door for future defence technology cooperation.

It is expected that this visit of the Chief of Army Staff will further strengthen the historical relations between India and Algeria and will prove to be a milestone in promoting shared security interests, regional stability and defence cooperation.
