ARA----------------------------Bihar Police has got another big success in Patna's high-profile Gopal Khemka murder case. Notorious criminal Vikas alias Raja (29 years, father Pradeep Mahato, resident of Daudchak Nagla, Malsalami, Patna) has been killed in an encounter between police and criminals near Peer Damaria Ghat in Malsalami police station area on the night of July 7. According to Bihar Police Headquarters, this encounter took place at around 2:45 pm, when the Special Investigation Team and Special Task Force were raiding to arrest the suspects involved in the murder of Gopal Khemka. Police have recovered a pistol, a live cartridge and a shell from the spot.

According to the police, Vikas alias Raja was the main accused who supplied weapons in this murder case. He had provided the pistol used in the murder to shooter Umesh Yadav alias Vijay. During the encounter, Vikas started firing as soon as he saw the police, in response to which the police fired in self-defense, in which Vikas died. On receiving the information of the incident, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Patna City) reached the spot at 5:00 am, Superintendent of Police (City) at 5:05 am and Senior Superintendent of Police (Patna) at 5:20 am. Vikas' body has been sent to Nalanda Medical College Hospital, Patna for post-mortem. Law and order is said to be normal in Malsalami.

Gopal Khemka, a prominent businessman and owner of Magadh Hospital, was shot dead near his house in Gandhi Maidan police station area on July 4 at 11:40 pm. In this case, the police had already arrested the main shooter Umesh Yadav and mastermind iron rod businessman Ashok Kumar Sao. Umesh revealed during interrogation that he was given a contract of Rs 3.5 lakh by Ashok Sao, in which he had received Rs 1 lakh in advance. In the investigation, land dispute is being considered the main reason for the murder and the link of this case has also come to light with gangster Ajay Verma lodged in Beur jail. Police have also recovered the scooty used in the murder and Rs 3 lakh in cash.

Today at 5 pm, Bihar Director General of Police Vinay Kumar will make further revelations in the case through a press conference at Sardar Patel Bhawan, Police Headquarters. Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), Inspector General of Police (Central Zone, Patna) and other senior officers will be present at the press conference. The murder has raised questions over the law and order situation in Bihar and opposition leaders Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi have demanded a CBI inquiry. The DGP has assured that the investigation will be completely transparent and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is personally monitoring it. Police say that the search for other suspects is on and more arrests are likely soon.
