PATNA-----------------------The Bihar government has once again proved how a sensitive and visionary leadership can bring concrete changes in the lives of the most vulnerable sections of society. Two major decisions taken recently by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar – ₹ 1100 monthly pension and free electricity up to 125 units – have provided direct financial relief of about ₹ 2000 per month to lakhs of helpless, elderly, widow, Divyang, helpless and poor families of the state.
1. ₹ 1100 monthly social security pension: Earlier, where the elderly, widows, Divyang and other needy sections used to get pension of ₹ 400-₹ 500, now the government has increased it to ₹ 1100. This is not only a relief decision in the era of inflation, but it also inspires the elderly to live a self-reliant and respectable life.
2. 125 units free electricity scheme (effective from 1 August 2025): Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced that from August 1, 2025, all domestic consumers of the state will get free electricity up to 125 units per month. This will lead to an average monthly saving of ₹ 800 to ₹ 900, which will directly reduce their expenses.
This scheme will not only provide financial relief, but will also promote the use of clean energy and electricity.
3. Overall, a simple family will get a direct benefit of ₹ 2000: If we look at these two schemes together, a needy family will get an average saving or assistance of ₹ 2000 every month from the government. Its impact is very wide - the standard of living of poor families will improve, children will be able to get better nutrition and education, the elderly will get a respectable life, there will be relief in household expenses.
4. Nitish Kumar's thinking - Social justice and inclusive development: This decision of Nitish Kumar strengthens his ideology of social justice and the spirit of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas". He understands that development of infrastructure alone is not enough, but providing relief to the last person in the society is most important.
The way the government is taking decisions in the interest of the poor, the weak and the deprived in Bihar at present is an example. Decisions like pension of ₹ 1100 and free electricity have come as a boon for the poor. This is a solid step towards social security, which will open the way for more positive changes in the coming times.
