ARA-------------------------Thiruvananthapuram: An 18 feet long king cobra was sitting coiled at the place where tourists go for picnics. Anyone would be stunned to see such a dangerous and poisonous snake, but for Roshni GS, catching a king cobra is a cakewalk. In no time, the uniformed Roshni GS brought the king cobra under her control.

The forest department team safely rescued a very dangerous and 18 feet long king cobra after it was spotted by locals in Anchumaruthumut area of Peppara in Kerala on Monday. This adventurous operation was led by Roshni, forest beat officer of Paruthipalli range.

Local tourists were bathing in the waterfall here, when they saw the huge king cobra, they were stunned. The forest department was informed immediately. In a short while, Roshni reached the spot with her team and without any fear, caught this dangerous snake with utmost care and skill.

During this, the fearlessness and professionalism of Forest Officer Roshni won the hearts of the people. People present at the spot told that when most of the people got scared after seeing the snake, Roshni carried out the rescue operation very calmly. After rescuing the King Cobra, it was released in a safe forest area.

Roshni started serving as a beat forest officer in 2017. In 2019, she was given special training to catch snakes by the Forest Department. Since then, Roshni has successfully caught many dangerous snakes like python, viper and cobra. Roshni has safely rescued more than five hundred snakes and released them back away from the population.

Roshni says that most snakes get trapped in human settlements and panicked people kill them. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of the rescue team to catch them safely and release them in their natural habitat. The forest department has also provided snake rescue kits so that every rescue is done carefully and scientifically.

Roshni's husband's name is Sajit Kumar and they have two children. He himself had requested for transfer to the Rapid Response Team, so that he could be a part of the mission of rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife.

King Cobra is the longest venomous snake in the world, its length can be up to 18 feet and usually likes to stay away from humans but it can pose a danger if it reaches near human settlements. Its poison is considered very dangerous. If treatment is not started immediately, death is certain.
