ARA-----------------------------Dr. K.N. Sinha, a senior consultant physician and former Additional Chief Medical Officer of the city, has been awarded a record certificate by "Asia Books of Records." The certificate acknowledges that Dr. Sinha conducted a campaign to raise awareness about "Antimicrobial Resistance." Dr. Sinha stated that the general public and medical professionals should be aware of "antimicrobial resistance" and that antibiotics should be used judiciously and only when absolutely necessary. Everyone should be well aware of the dangers of antibiotic misuse. No medical shop should dispense antibiotics to the general public without a doctor's prescription. The general public should also refrain from self-medicating with antibiotics. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics can damage the liver, heart, and kidneys. Many antibiotics also affect the brain. It is essential to always take vitamins along with antibiotics, and sometimes pre- and post-biotic capsules are also necessary. In the current changing weather, common colds and viral infections are prevalent, which usually resolve on their own in three to five days with only symptomatic treatment. Antibiotics should only be used with a doctor's consultation if a cough, cold, or fever persists for more than a week or if the phlegm is yellow. Many wounds, boils, and pimples heal on their own or with anti-allergic medication and warm compresses. However, people often take antibiotics indiscriminately, which is risky.

Repeated use of antibiotics leads to "body resistance," due to which mild and medium-level antibiotics become ineffective when needed, and stronger antibiotics have to be used. Even then, sometimes they don't work, and the side effects become more pronounced.

Even for stomach problems, sometimes fasting, consuming yogurt, or taking pre- and probiotic capsules can help. However, people, in a panic, start taking antibiotic pills, which is harmful in the long run.

For many common illnesses, home remedies and Ayurvedic medicines are quite effective alternatives to antibiotics.
