BAN ON 40 APPS LIKE ULLU-ALTT-BIG SHOT FOR SERVING SOFT PORN

DELHI--------------------------The central government has taken strict action on soft porn content and banned many apps like Ullu App, ALTT, Desiflix and Big Shots. The government has issued a notification in this regard. Earlier in the month of March, the central government banned 19 websites, 10 apps and 57 social media handles for broadcasting obscene and objectionable content.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has decided to ban 26 websites and 14 apps showing soft porn and adult content. This list includes apps like Alt, Ullu, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a notification to all Internet Service Providers and directed them to shut down these websites.

According to government sources, adult content was being made available on these OTT apps in the name of erotic web series without any moderation. The Ministry of Information and Technology has taken action on the basis of several complaints received on this.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a notification directing companies providing internet services to restrict public access to 40 such apps-websites in India, which have been marked for hosting banned content.

The government has made it clear that under the IT Act 2000 and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, it is the responsibility of the intermediaries i.e. Internet Service Providers to remove illegal information or block its access.

The names of the apps banned by the government are - Kangan App, Bull App, Jalwa App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Soul Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Halchal App. MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mozflix and Triflix.
