ARA----------------------------Bihar has received a big gift during the Eastern Region Power Ministers Conference. Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced in this meeting that the Central Government has given in-principle consent to set up a nuclear power plant in Bihar. This decision is being considered a historic step towards the energy self-sufficiency of the state.
Bihar has been struggling with power crisis and dependence for a long time. Although the state government has emphasized on solar energy, hydropower and thermal power, there is still a gap between the demand and supply of electricity. The nuclear power plant will provide the state with a sustainable, safe and environmentally friendly energy source.
"Keeping in view the energy needs and development aspirations of Bihar, the Central Government is ready to set up a nuclear power plant in this state. The process of identifying the location will be started soon, and all scientific and environmental standards will be followed."
On behalf of the Bihar government, Energy Minister Bijendra Yadav expressed happiness over this proposal and said that the state government welcomes this decision of the Center and is ready to provide all necessary support. He said that the government will soon prepare a list of potential districts and send it to DAE (Department of Atomic Energy).
The construction of a nuclear power plant will not only produce energy but will also bring new opportunities for infrastructure, local employment and technical training in Bihar. Through this, large-scale investment will be attracted to the state, which will give impetus to the local economy.
Although the location has not been officially announced yet, the names of districts like Gaya, Ara, and West Champaran are in discussion, where environmental and geographical conditions are considered favorable for a nuclear plant.
