MURDERSASARAM (RNI) Strict sentence pronounced in dowry murder case; husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law convicted, sentenced to 7 to 10 years in prison and a fine

In Bhabua, dowry-seeking claimed the life of another daughter. Now, the law has sent a strong message by imposing harsh punishment on the culprits. The court of Additional District Judge (III) Vinay Prakash Tiwari of the Bhabua Civil Court convicted three accused in the dowry murder and destruction of evidence case.

The court sentenced the deceased's husband, Virendra Kumar, to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000, his father-in-law, Jai Shri Ram, to 7 years imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000, and the deceased's mother-in-law to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000.

Additional Public Prosecutor Satish Kumar Singh stated that the accused were convicted under sections 498A, 304B, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code. The court held that the crimes of dowry harassment and murder within seven years of marriage had been proven.

This case is from the Sonhan police station area. According to the details recorded in the FIR, the deceased, Rekha Kumari, was married to Virendra Kumar on June 5, 2022, with much fanfare. However, just a month and a half after the wedding, she died under suspicious circumstances on July 23, 2022.

The deceased's mother, Sonia Kunwar, a resident of Babhangaon village in the Kudra police station area, filed an application alleging that her daughter was murdered because her dowry demands were not met.

The family stated that Rekha's in-laws had been harassing her for dowry since her marriage. Ultimately, her husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law conspired to murder her and burned her body to destroy evidence.

The court, after examining all the facts, evidence, and witnesses, found all three accused guilty and announced a harsh sentence. This court's decision sends a clear message to society that those who commit heinous crimes like dowry murder will not be spared.
