BUXAR----------------------------On Wednesday, a speeding trailer driver ran over a cyclist on the Buxar-Patna four-lane, killing him on the spot. The trailer driver fled after abandoning his vehicle. The police have seized the vehicle. The deceased has been identified as Ramji Prasad, son of the late Keshari Chaurasia, of Purana Bhojpur. He was reportedly going to fetch milk from Navadera on his bicycle at around 7:30 a.m. as usual.
As he attempted to cross the four-lane road from the old road at the end of his village, he was struck by the speeding trailer. He suffered serious injuries in the incident and fell unconscious at the scene. Upon learning of this, relatives and villagers rushed him to Sadar Hospital, Buxar, where doctors declared him dead. Upon confirming his death, the family erupted in grief.
Villagers say the deceased came from a very poor family and worked as a laborer at a building materials store, while his only son ran a small shop nearby. The entire family was devastated after the incident. No one knew what to do. Police seized the vehicle and began searching for the driver.
The tailor who caused the accident has been taken into custody by the police. The police are searching for the driver. At the time of writing, no FIR had been filed by the family, but the police are investigating the matter on their own.
Meanwhile, the police handed over the body to the family after conducting the post-mortem. The family first took the body to the ancestral home. Upon seeing Ramji's body, the women in the house and neighborhood began crying and wailing, creating a somber atmosphere. Following this incident, people have become increasingly angry over the high-speed vehicles and the frequent accidents on the Buxar-Patna four-lane. People have demanded the Transport Department and the District Administration to implement traffic standards on NH 922 and take strict action against those driving at high speeds.
