BUXAR------------------------Under the ongoing campaign against liquor smuggling in the district, the Excise Department team achieved a major success on Sunday morning. During a thorough check at the Deval bridge checkpoint, a large quantity of foreign liquor was recovered from a Bolero vehicle. This operation was carried out around 5 am on Sunday.
The Excise Department team, led by SI Surendra Kumar, searched the Bolero vehicle. During the inspection, it was revealed that liquor was being smuggled by hiding it in specially made compartments on the roof and under the seats of the vehicle. The recovered liquor includes 1522 bottles of 180 ml 8 PM whisky (total 273.960 liters) and 48 bottles of 750 ml Royal Stag whisky (36.00 liters). Thus, a total of 309.960 liters of foreign liquor was seized.
The Mahindra Bolero vehicle (registration number BR3P-1544) was also seized from the spot. The driver was identified as Abhishek Kumar (19 years old), son of Ramikbal Singh, resident of Rani village, Bikramganj police station, Rohtas district. In the initial interrogation, the accused confessed that he was transporting the liquor from Uttar Pradesh towards Natwar.
The Excise Department has arrested the accused and registered a case under the Excise Act and initiated further legal proceedings. Departmental officials said that the campaign against liquor smuggling will continue continuously
